Join art historian Sarah Middleton for a lively exploration of artists across four centuries who have transformed everyday subjects into extraordinary works of art, as seen in The Art of Looking exhibition.
From the domestic scenes of Jan Steen and the intimate portraits of Rembrandt to the still lives of Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and William Scott, Sarah will explore how artists have used the ordinary to reveal something about their time, their inner worlds and the act of looking itself. This lecture invites us to slow down, look more closely and consider what becomes visible when we give an artwork and its history our full attention.
