You can discover many pages on the website about Cheltenham and the First World War and you can search our collections database to find out more. We’re constantly adding to the database, so there is always more to explore.

Our 2018-19 Open Archive exhibition ‘At Last Fighting is Over’ commemorated the First World War with archival material and objects telling the story of life on the front and at home. Whilst this exhibition is now closed information sheets from it can be found on our website.

In 2014 and 2018 The Wilson took part in funded projects with other heritage organisations and societies in the town and county to commemorate the First World War.

‘Cheltenham Remembers’: Cheltenham’s 2018 project was led by Cheltenham Borough Council with additional funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Wilson put on two exhibitions, ‘At Last Fighting is Over’ and ‘The Listening Station’, and carried out a digital project digitising diaries and letters from the Wilson family at home and on the front.

‘Gloucestershire Remembers WWI’: In 2014 The Wilson took part in a countywide project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, displaying First World War objects in its Open Archive gallery, including scrapbooks, postcards, letters and objects from the period, and completing an associated digital project.
